Streamlining the contractor experience
Company
Role
Overview
The Sherwin-Williams PRO App was developed to give paint contractors a mobile tool for managing the most important parts of their work: pricing, ordering, project tracking, and delivery. I led the design of the app experience, helping Sherwin-Williams bring their personal, in-store service model to scale.
Challenge
Paint professionals were losing time and money managing purchases through fragmented channels. From in-person store visits to manual tracking of orders and pricing, the workflow wasn’t sustainable—especially as demand for digital tools grew. The app needed to support growth without losing the personalized feel contractors were used to.
Solution
We designed and launched a mobile app tailored to pro painters—streamlining their jobs while preserving their personalized store relationships.

Frequently purchased items
Research found that paint contractors primarily buy from the same set of products within a single project. Making those products readily available to them was critical user journey we needed to accommodate.
Reordering & order history
Knowing that paint contractors order the same products over and over again, allowing for a quick reorder of a previous purchases was another critical user journey that we learned during research and testing.
Product details
Ordering paint is something that paint contractors do almost everyday. Understanding the interactions they have with their Sherwin-Williams rep at the store was key to making the app feel like a natural extension to their store.
Checkout
Paint contractors interact differently with their store than how a regular DIY customer might. Paint contractors set up accounts based on the jobs or projects they have. Each of those jobs or projects may have a negotiated price based on the size and their relationship with the store. Providing those details during the checkout flow was essential to provide user confidence when placing an order.
